CBSE has proposals to make Class X board exams optional: Govt

The CBSE has proposals to make the Class-X board exam optional and allow internal assessment in which the pattern of questions would be similar to those in the board exam; the Lok Sabha was informed on Monday.
To ensure that the quality of education is not affected, the CBSE would ask the schools to complete the required course of study of Class-IX and X as per the Board’s scheme of studies and follow prescribed textbooks, Minister of State for HRD D Purandeswari said in a written reply.
She said the schools would conduct internal examinations on the basis of curriculum prescribed by the CBSE.
The pattern of question paper in the internal exam will be similar to that in the board exam. The schools will also strengthen continuous and comprehensive evaluation up to Class-X, she said.
There is no proposal at present to set up one national board for school education in the country, she said.
The CBSE has received 2,250 applications for fresh affiliations for the 2010-11 academic session, she said in reply to a separate question. Maximum 303 proposals have come from Uttar Pradesh.
The board has at present 10,429 school affiliated to it.
